Kitten Care & Recommended Diet

Settling in Kitty: On arrival home with your new kitten, place the kitten while still in the carrier in a suitable warm room where the kitten can be safely kept for a few days. Kitten will settle best in your bedroom so he/she dosn't get lonely at night. Your baby will come out to explore in it's own time. Make sure there is a litter tray in the room and that the kitten knows exactly where it is. The kitten's room should also have a bowl of food and water kept a suitable distance from the litter tray. Cats are reluctant to use a litter tray that is too close to the cat's food. Let your new kitten come to you in his/hers own time.

Toileting: Pedigree kittens are fully litter trained from a very early age. With any kitten irrespective of breed to avoid accidents it is absolutely vital that for the early days and weeks in a new home, the kitten is aware at all times where the litter tray is. In a new environment, the kitten may not be able to find the litter tray alone especially with a home with two or more floors and several rooms. It is important that the kitten is restricted to one area for the first few weeks and only allowed into other areas of your home under supervision. It is wise to use the same litter that kitty has been used to. Wood pellets. Cats are fastidiously clean, keep litter tray well away from food area or kitty may be reluctant to use the tray

Getting to know your Kitten: It can take days or even weeks to establish a relationship with a kitten so please be patient. Kittens need time to bond with you and before long your new baby will become your best friend. You should put your kitten back in their own room with their litter tray, food and water. Make sure your new kitten also has a comfortable bed or basket to sleep in with some toys to play with. It may be worth considering obtaining two kittens especially if you will be out of the home for most of the day. This way they will always have a constant playmate and two cats can exercise each other far more effectively than you can. Please remember that your new kitten should be kept indoors at all times and shouldn't be allowed outdoors until they are old enough to cope with outdoor life. Burmillas happy to live indoors.

Children: As with introducing any pets, introducing your new kitten to children needs to be done slowly & carefully. Let the kitten settle in before you introduce it to children. If your children are young, never leave them unattended with the kitten. Ensure you teach your children how to properly handle a kitten & provide the kitten with a safe place it can retreat to should it need to get away. Explain to your children that kittens & cats should never be disturbed if they are sleeping or eating.

Parasites: Your kitten has been wormed several times prior to you adopting him/her, a proper worming regime is something which will need to be maintained throughout your cat's life. There are many excellent products on the market to make worming so much easier, these include topical medications which are applied to the back of the cat's neck. Your kitten has been de fleaed prior to going to new home with Advantage. Your vet will advise any further treatments for flea and worm .

Diet: Your kitten has been raised on Jimbos raw veal or beef . (Do not get the Jimbos economy this is horse meat) and Whiskers and or Dine Kitten with the occasional steamed chicken and a propriety Kibble . Kitty needs feeding initially three to four times a day. However I leave kibble down with fresh water all the time and feed fresh meat morning and evening Whiskes Kitten last thing at night. (Do not feed cold from fridge either microwave to room temp or add a little boiling water).This is by far the easiest if you are working. or you can feed Whiskas a midday meal whichever is right for you. Jimbos is available at all supermarkets in the fridge with other pet foods. Jimbos will also deliver to your door wholesale.. Your kitten has been fed the very best. Dry Pet Food varies greatly in quality it is not advisable to feed super market brands or brands that contain soy protein as apposed to chicken etc. Some brands also contain nasty chemicals used as preservatives. Cat grass is obtainable from places like Kings Garden centre in the Herb section. Cat chew on grass for vital vitamins and minerals not to make themselves sick which is the popular belief.
